Victor always awake in the middle of the night, shouting and panting, throwing pillows at the other side of the room. The first few times Paul was not sure what to do with this scandal (on occasion room neighbors came to complain to the owner of the motel) and let his nerves to speak for him, shouting as high as possible they were safe and calm down. Not many days passed before he realized that this was not the best tactic, after all it did not take an expert to know that if Victor ended in a heap in a corner had to be a bad sign.

After several weeks of trial and error, Paul knows exactly what to do when you wake up sobbing. Walk slowly up to bed together and put both hands on the shoulders of Victor, still felt him tremble.

"Okay ...- whispers hoarsely, still sleepy, we are safe do you see? There is nothing to fear ...-

- Really? "Frightened tone is the same every night and Paul lets out a tired sigh before continuing.

"Really, now back to sleep ...- gives you a couple of pats on the shoulders and wrapped in sheets, like every night. Sit for a moment longer on the bed, until he realizes that Victor is lying with eyes open and stares at him, unblinking. Paul has a sigh and reluctantly murmured "good night, Victor."

Only then he closes his eyes.

Paul has fuzzy memories that night. Even after all the beatings supposed to be normal to have some lapses. Just remember clearly that woman involved in a medical gown and if memory fails him, thought he saw blood splatter on the side. He also remembers clearly the scars furrowing his face and hair falling carelessly over her left cheek.

"You must leave now. It is the only chance because at this moment everyone is more concerned with finding Alpha and Echo that you handle the truth ...- only remember the beginning of the speech, and the dry sound coming loose from the moorings. More often mentioned "Alpha" and "Echo", but the rest of the words sounded like distant whispers. At his feet, he felt the weight of the world on his shoulders and image Caroline left asking the name stuck in the ground.

"I can not leave without Caroline ...

-Caroline and can not save, and if that life is meaningless, then stay where you are ...- do not know if those were his exact words, but his tone was so realistic that deal it was almost like another punch in the face. Only this, the imaginary, it does react and believe him then nodded. "Follow me" was the only order and Paul, without having more options in sight, followed the woman who moved with skill and stealth in the corridors of Dollhouse.

arrived at a room low light but she was still moving with the ease of someone who knows every corner of your home. He opened a compartment in the wall, the beginning of a seemingly endless hallway.

-goes on a busy street, then I'm sure of that training in the FBI will count for something. Only one thing I will ask ...- Paul thought so, ironically, that everything in life had a price. But then I saw him huddled in a corner. That woman came up to him, taking her face and whispering, as one who reassures a child. Only when Paul was close enough could see the scars on his face, recent and still bleeding.

"I cured my best, it'll be alright, but I think others think the same," gave "other" biting her lower lip and staring at the floor, before turning to him again. Paul surveyed the scene with bated breath, not knowing Que.es-Victor, listen, I want you to look at that man over there. His name is Paul and he'll take care of you hear me? He'll now look ...- Paul

that phrase was still turning over in his head when he lifted the lid of the sewer that led him back to freedom.

But everything happened just like that woman said, the name of Claire Saunders evaporated all the questions. Victor attended the nurse with a sweet and soothing voice, but he was looking scared.

Paul watched everything from the doorway and inadvertently recalled the first time she saw him. In the midst of a party and surrounded by women, looked like those guys who could eat the world if they wanted. The image in front of him was so different that at times felt like vomiting.

"The cut ends to close in a few days but will leave scars" was the medical diagnosis y él torció la boca pensando que claro, por supuesto que dejará cicatrices.

—¿Adónde vamos?—Victor se detuvo a unos cuantos pasos de la salida del hospital y le miró fijamente, without blinking, as if he had all the answers of the universe. A Paul would cost to get used to this look, and all I could do at that time was mumble a "still do not know" as she took his arm to take him to the car.

since then are well . Changing city every two weeks and Victor having nightmares every night. Cree fleeing but did not really know for sure if you are looking for (to put a bullet in the head) if they want to recover Victor (he prefers not imagine why) or is it just paranoia and no one really cares the fate of both.

Sometimes, especially when traveling at night on the motorway and Victor goes dormant in the next seat, think about Caroline. As he was about to save finally be the hero who rescues the princess enchanted castle, whose story ends with a trite "happily ever after." Mellie also thinking, that lived across the hall, she baked cookies and Mellie who slept peacefully in Dollhouse, it could not save her. Now both are miles away and are only broken dreams abandoned at some point in the road. Think that life is a fairy tale and that rarely ends in late happy.

realize that life is to have light sleep at midnight, and be able to wake up briefly before listening to Victor sob. Sitting on the edge of the bed and whisper "all is well, quiet, everything will be fine" quietly. It slowly clean the scars (Victor never complains, but is shaken out of control), being careful not to become infected.

-...- Like Victor said one afternoon, with the index smeared frosting. For two days they settled in an apartment in California (it was tiny even for two people, but it's been almost four months, Paul believes it's time to go back to being sedentary again) and bought cake chocolate because it was the first thing that Victor asked. He pointed to the box with your finger, looking expectantly, like a child waiting for permission from their elders.

-Enjoy it, it's all yours ...- gave him a few pats on the shoulder and walked to which appointed as his room. It was the smallest, but do not mind living in small spaces, plus another room with better views and Victor was delighted with her, so she had trouble not give it up.

He lay in bed, unfolding the paper and carelessly browsing the local news up to the jobs section. Just as it is time to be sedentary, too it's time to plan how to stay because the savings are not going to last a lifetime. Know that there are other difficulties in addition to getting jobs, but prefer not to think about them now. As they say, the war is won one battle at a time.

been about ten minutes (or maybe less, not sure) when the doorbell rings and it's not long before Victor looks, slowly pushing the door. You are about to ask if everything goes well when you look at what he has in his hands. Victor

extends to him a plate (blue plastic dish no budget in the near future) that contains a huge piece of chocolate cake. Paul is static, and is just as the first time I heard sobbing, went blank and not knowing exactly what to do.

"I saved it for you ... Will not you?-Again is doing that stare, unblinking. As if he had any replies from the world to himself, something must have that gesture, because it extends his hand and nods, with a half smile. Holding a strawberry cake stands and takes a bite, the sweet taste hits your stomach, sliding down his throat.

"Very well, then you have to buy more-when looks up, realizes that Victor is grinning. To be fair, is a half-smile, but the first he has seen in months and yes, he realizes that sometimes it's the little battles that allow the hero to win the war.
